The year of IJGP's inception '2007' was full of teething troubles, and it was in the year of 2008 that the journal entered into systematic growth phase. I am delighted to share the success of IJGP to all its stakeholders, most importantly - the readers, the authors and the reviewers. As 'editorial board' we find our role that of facilitator between 'authors' and 'reviewers', amongst whom the actual transaction takes place. I am putting forward to you a thorough analysis of the journal's performance during 2008.
Top-10 Tally | | |
I devoted my entire editorial of the last issue praising Saluja and Kamboj for having the highest viewership, 3929 (at that point of time), and as I am writing this editorial the count has crossed 20,000. There are number of papers that crossed 1000 mark. The top-10 tally is provided in [Table 1].
Acceptance/Rejection Rates | | |
IJGP has received a very warm response from the researchers as is evident from large number of submissions. In 2008 we received 305 articles, out of which 74 have been accepted for publication. Details are provided in [Table 2]. A high rejection rate of 70% does not indicate that many of the submitted articles did not have the required quality; it is primarily because of the space constraint that we are required to make selections.
Journal Performance | | |
It is every researcher's desire to get his/her article published at the earliest, which is in the interest of other stakeholders too. Due to rapid knowledge explosion, with time, the researches start diminishing their value. We, at the editorial office try to reduce the cycle time as much as possible; still, the peer reviewing process takes its own time. The measure in 2008 on this aspect is shown in [Table 3]. The time taken from 'acceptance' to 'publication' is still very high. Our onus in 2009 would be to reduce this time.
Authors | | |
IJGP succeeded in attracting a large number of authors in 2008 as is revealed by [Table 4] and [Table 5]. Although, most of the contributions are still from India, the journal is spreading its wings in other countries, and as of now, represents over 15 countries.
Reviewers | | |
This remains the front where the journal succeeded the most, a whooping 530 number of referees from 78 countries generously contributed in peer reviewing. Owing to the rigorous involvement of reviewers, it is almost certain that the published contents were of high quality. Hence, the authors should feel pride in having passed this test. [Table 6] represents the reviewers' performance, while [Table 7] represents country wise distribution of the manuscript review.
Amidst global economic meltdown, wishing you all "A very happy and prosperous 2009," on behalf of entire editorial team. [Figure 1]
